JOB CREATION IN GHANA, A DISTANT DREAM?

For any economy to grow at an extra-ordinary rate, job creation and getting young people into decent jobs is a very important governmental policy.

Creating jobs for the youth has a huge impact on the economy. You get the youth engaged and by so doing getting them out of social vices, they become more responsible adults, with the money earned by such people; consumption in the economy increases leading to economic growth, more other jobs can be created from the increased spending as businesses make profit.

There is a great positive reason why all economies should create jobs, but it is always easier said than done. Job creation has always being a major setback for most countries, while some countries like those in Europe and North America have succeeded in minimizing the unemployment rate in their countries, the situation is much worse in the developing countries like Ghana.

Poor governmental policies for the youth and over reliance on foreign  imports has created an economy of importers rather than exporters. Importing goods export jobs outside and exporting goods create jobs inside the country.

Am I right to say that the government has completely failed in its pursuit of creating not just any job but good jobs for people? I guess they are doing their best. But much needs to be done. As the president presents his plans for creating jobs today, lets hope he means it, and not just pursuing a campaign strategy instead.

THE 2016 GHANAIAN ELECTIONS(Part 1)

I have been following the U.S elections with keen interest. Donald Trump is someone I find very interesting indeed. Despite his utterance and negative publicity people still support and vote for him. He is on his way to clinching the Republican nomination for the 2016 U.S elections.

Now lets come back home and monitor what is going on here. I am very disappointed with what is going on. the president is using his incumbency to skew the elections in his favor. Though it doesn't surprise me, that doesn't mean it is right. Past governments have done similar to their opponents. Politics in Ghana is turning out to be nasty indeed.

I support the view that Ghana needs a two party system like that in the U.S. Both parties must be supported by the state so we could have a free and fair election. Elections in Ghana are not that expensive if you are to compare that to the American elections. There is no cost to having a peaceful elections. If we can pay for it, why not. lets do it.

God help our homeland Ghana.

Woyome case: Amidu’s “diversionary tactics” won’t cow me - AG

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Opong has denied accusations that she omitted the Supreme Court declarations that affected Austro-Invest and the then Attorney General, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, whose conduct in facilitating the payment of the over GH?51million to Alfred Agbesi Woyome were also declared unconstitutional when she filed the entry of judgment in the case.

Mr Martin Amidu in a rejoinder to an interview granted Graphiconline by Mr Tony Lithur had said that after the Supreme Court unanimously decided on July 26, 2014 that the purported contract that earned Woyome the judgment debt was unconstitutional, the Entry of Judgment filed by the Attorney-General, Mrs. Brew Appiah-Opong at the Supreme Court was selective.

He accused Mrs Appiah-Opong of omitting the declarations that affected Austro-Invest and the then Attorney General, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, whose conduct in facilitating the payment of the "Gargantuan over GH?51million were also declared unconstitutional."

"Woyome and I opposed the selective entry of judgment in our respective affidavits to the entry of judgment. The Supreme Court agreed with me and struck out the offending entry of judgment for non-compliance with the decision of the Supreme Court," Mr Amidu said.

Following from that, Mr Amidu said the perception that he got in his handling of the Constitutional cases against the Attorney General, Waterville, and Woyome/Austro-Invest was that, "the John Dramani Mahama NDC Government under its Attorney General, Mrs. Brew Appiah-Opong has at every step done everything in its power to impede the success of the cases."

"I had made it clear to the Mills/Mahama Government as its Attorney General that no prosecution in the scam involving the over GH?51million will succeed by targeting Woyome alone without Waterville, Austro-Invest, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, the Chief State Attorney whose spouse EOCO reveal had received GH?400,000 from Woyome while he was handling the case as an Attorney for the Government, and others.

But in a response, Mrs Appiah-Opong told Graphiconline, "I deny his allegations. In any case we are working with Chief State Attorneys on this case. I'm not working on it alone,"

She said Woyome's lawyers opposed the entry of judgment on a completely different ground.

"On that day, Woyome's lawyers went to the court withdraw the application but I understand Martin Amidu was there to insist it should be struck out."

"How do we serve an entry of judgment on a Entity which he says had been dissolved and which by his own statement, it's name had been struck out from?"

Mahama sacks Ash. Reg. Minister Sarpong and Deputy Yammin

Yammin Sarpong

President John Dramani Mahama has with immediate effect withdrawn the appointment of Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel K. Sarpong, and his Deputy, Joseph Yammin.

A statement signed by Minister for Communications Dr. Edward Omane Boamah says, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Eric Opoku will act as Ashanti Regional Minister until a substantive Minister is appointed.

The presidency did not state the reasons for the dismissal of the two.

There have been tensions between Dr Sarpong and Mr Yammin for some months now.

Sources within the governing party in the Ashanti Region say the dismissal of the two may be linked to Tuesday's disturbances at the party’s regional office by some irate members.

President Mahama Told Me Personally That His Wife Likes Me – Ken Agyapong

New Patriotic Party [NPP] Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon Kennedy Agyapong has said despite President John Dramni Mahama’s unsteady governance over the years, he is looking up to him to deliver some promises he has made in recent times.

According to him, aside politics, he holds the first gentleman and his wife in high esteem even though he is an ardent critic to the Mahama’s and Mahama-led NDC government.

“I admire the man [President Mahama] and nobody can change it. I like the president and his wife. I admired the president whiles he was in parliament but that doesn’t stop me from criticizing his presidency. In politics, you say it as it is…though it will hurt your friend, it doesn’t mean that should stop the friendship.

“…I will never lose the admiration for President Mahama because he is a member of the NDC…No! He [President Mahama] has a lot of positive side. He is a gentleman,” he said.

Adding that, “President Mahama told me personally that his wife likes me”.

Speaking on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Ebia" programme, the outspoken Kennedy Agyapong opined that, President Mahama is “messing up” his presidency due to some individuals around him but failed to mention names.

“Sometimes in politics due to the people around you, you can mess up. Same as me [Kennedy], you would like me personally but on radio when talking politics you wouldn’t,” he said.
